City residents are likely to get some relief from the intense heat as the UT Meterological Centre has forecast light rain in the next 24 hours.

“Isolated light rain or thundershower is likely to take place in the city during the next 24 hours and light to moderate rain or thundershower activity is likely to take place on July 10,” predicted the MeT office. 

The spell is likely to be accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 km per hour, stated the office, and added that the rainfall is likely to increase further from July 11 to 12.

Prevailing heat wave conditions are likely to continue for another 24-36 hours and abate afterwards, states the department. 

The maximum temperature in the city was today recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees above normal, whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.6 degrees Celsius, which was 6 degrees above normal.
