Initially, 200 km of roads will be recarpeted, for which the tender process has already begun. It will be followed by another phase covering 400 km of city roads. “We are ensuring that all internal roads under the MC are recarpeted on time next year,” said Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar.

Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad has directed officials to ensure timely completion of works to avoid inconvenience to the public. Meanwhile, the V3 roads that earlier fell under the MC’s purview have been handed over to the UT Administration’s Engineering Department due to funding constraints. The department will now handle their maintenance and recarpeting.

In addition, the Engineering Department will also take up major repair and reconstruction work in the Sector 26 mandi. The department and the Market Committee have sought a study report from the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research. Most roads in the Mandi area be converted to concrete, with paver blocks used in certain stretches.
