City mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public places, especially in busy market areas. “Street vendors are the backbone of the local economy, and it is their responsibility to ensure cleanliness around their vending zones. Proper waste disposal as per the solid waste management rules is not just a rule, but a civic duty,” she stated.

MC Special Commissioner Pardeep Kumar also spoke at the event, encouraging vendors to take responsibility of their surroundings. “Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. A hygienic market not only attracts more customers, but also promotes public health and well-being. He urged all vendors to segregate waste at source, use seperate dustbins for the wet and dry waste and avoid plastic use.”

Area councillor Jasmanpreet Singh echoed similar sentiments, encouraging all stakeholders to come together in the spirit of community-driven cleanliness.
