Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said the area had to be developed as the MC would be auctioning the prime land soon. The development will be carried out in accordance with the layout and zoning plan approved by the Chief Architect for the area measuring over 7 acres.
The tenders for various development works are likely to be floated soon. The works will include development of roads, public health services (sewerage, storm water, water supply and tertiary-treated water lines, public toilets, sewerage treatment plants (STPs), underground water reservoirs and tubewells. In 2005, the MC had sold a residential site of 5.39 acres in Manimajra for a housing society (freehold basis) for Rs 108 crore. A hotel site in Sector 35 was sold for Rs 101.37 crore on a leasehold basis in 2006. The MC is facing the worst financial crisis as it has no funds for development works.
