Chandigarh MC to discuss ways to overcome crisis

The committee formed by the MC Mayor will a hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss ways to solve the issue of the current financial crisis.

Other than seven councillors comprising former mayors Arun Sood and Davesh Moudgil, additional commissioner Anil Garg and the chief accounts officer will also be part of the meeting. Mayor Raj Bala Malik formed the committee after the MC House decided to deliberate on shortage of funds last week. The Mayor has asked the committee to submit its report by July 25.

MC Commissioner KK Yadav had last week revealed that against the committed liabilities of Rs597 crore for the current financial year, the civic body had only Rs581 crore. With a deficit of Rs16 crore, the corporation was not in a position to undertake development and maintenance work, he had said.

The former mayors have been taking up the matter of getting funds as per the recommendations of the Fourth Delhi Finance Commission, but it did not happen. The Centre has
