The UT Administration is planning to install escalators at the city’s first underpass between Sector 17 and 22 to provide relief to the elderly.

The underpass was constructed in 1996 for the convenience of the people to reach the bus stand and vice versa.

Keeping in view the problems faced by elders, many resident welfare associations had written to the UT in this regard.

An official said the Engineering Department had conducted a survey for the installation of escalators and had asked the Architecture Department to prepare a design. After the finalisation of the design, the department would prepare cost estimates and then float tenders for installation of the escalators, said the official. — TNS
