Chandigarh records 8% rise in GST collection in July

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in the city last month witnessed an increase of 8% against the gross levy collected during the corresponding period last year.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the GST collection for July this year stood at Rs 233 crore, Rs 16 crore more than Rs 217 crore mopped up during the same month in 2023. The ministry did not share details of the tax collected during the month of June and January this year.
The UT Administration had announced a GST collection of Rs 178 crore for May this year, marking a 6% increase from the amount collected during the corresponding period a year before.
The rise in collections was attributed to enhanced compliance measures, including scrutinies, inspections and audits, said an official of the Excise and Taxation Department.
The collection for April saw a rise of 23% at Rs 313 crore. It was Rs 58 crore more than Rs 255 crore generated in 2023. The tax collection for March had witnessed a growth of 18% at Rs 238 crore. It was Rs 36 crore more than Rs 202 crore collected in 2023. Similarly, the collection for February had increased to 12% at Rs 211 crore against Rs 188 crore received in 2023.
At Rs 281 crore, December 2023 had seen an increase to 29% GST collection. Similarly, the collection for November last year was Rs 210 crore, which was 20% more than Rs 175 crore collected during the same month in 2022.
The collection for October 2023 stood at Rs 389 crore, Rs 38 crore more than the levy received in 2022. In September, the UT had witnessed a growth of just 6% with Rs 219 crore mop-up, which was Rs 13 crore more than Rs 206 crore collected during the same month in 2022. In August, the UT saw a similar growth of 7%. The tax collection was Rs 192 crore against Rs 179 crore received during the same month in 2022.
The GST collection had registered an increase of 23% in July last year, which stood at Rs 217 crore, Rs 41 crore more than Rs 176 crore collected in the same month in 2022. The gross GST collection in June 2023 was Rs 227.06 crore. It saw a growth of 34% which was Rs 57.36 crore more than Rs 169.7 crore collected in the same month in 2022.
