The tendering process for works with an estimated cost of Rs 24.21 crore is underway.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said the V-3 roads, having a total linear length of 81 km, had recently been transferred from the Municipal Corporation to the Engineering Department, UT, for their upkeep and maintenance. The patchwork on V-1, V-2 and V-3 roads have been completed as per requirement.
Further, the re-carpeting of the V-3 roads between Sectors 31-47, 48-49, and 52-61 will commence very shortly, she added.
Babla criticised the Opposition councillors of AAP and the Congress for opposing the transfer of the V3 roads in the general house meeting held in March. She said the BJP-led MC was moving forward with development as its only focus.
The MC has already commenced the re-carpeting of the V-4, V-5 and V-6 roads across the city. As many as 69 roads, with a total length of 227 km, are being upgraded across various sectors and villages. Works worth approximately Rs 40 crore have been allotted across 11 subdivisions.
The Mayor said recarpeting would soon begin on the key V-3 stretches on Udyan Path, Sukhna Path, Chandi Path, Shanti Path, Vidya Path, Udyog Path and others.
The re-carpeting of roads under the jurisdiction of the UT Engineering Department — from junction 48 to UT boundary, junction 59 to 60, and 60 to 61 has been completed. Work on Railway Road up to Daria, road at the back of Nayagaon up to the Punjab Civil Secretariat, the stretch from Sarangpur to IRB Complex, and another from Nayagaon to Khuda Ali Sher is underway.
