Local equestrian Jaiveer Makkar won individual gold and team silver in show jumping (U-14) event during the Delhi Horse Show (DHS) at The Army Polo and Race Course, New Delhi.

He had brilliant clear rounds on his two horses Sam and Niquita and clocked a perfect 35.12 seconds in the jump off on Niquita. After the Junior Nationals, Delhi Horse Show is the toughest equestrian show in the country with about 70 riders competing in each round for U-14 year category.

Makkar, a student of The Doon School, Dehradun, had an intensive training at The Ranch in Chandigarh under coaches Palwinder Singh, Harjinder Khosa and Deepinder Singh Brar. Jaiveer has won medals at the Junior Nationals and the DHS consecutively for the past four years. He has consistently maintained his top rank in the country year after year.

“The school helps me cope with my missed classes. My practice and studies survive on a delicate balance, which is maintained by the collective effort by my school, coaches and family,” said Makkar. In his last Junior National 2021, he won an individual silver medal.
