Chandigarh’s veteran athletes bag medals at Asia Masters meet

Chandigarh’s, Kirpal Singh (94) won two medals — gold in the 5000-metre walk and silver in the 100m race. He has so far won 12 medals in national and three in international championships. Kirpal started participating in the competition at the age of 92. Last year, he won gold in the championship held at Kuala Lumpur and two medals in the 43rd National Veteran Athletics Championship by claiming first position in the 1000m race walk (11:42.98s) and gold in the 100m race (50.19s).
Meanwhile, another veteran athlete, Madan Chitkara, won three silver medals for 5km run, 5km race walk and 1500m run in the same tournament. The 87-year-old veteran athlete will now participate in the South Korea International Veterans’ Athletics Meet.
