Quick action by fire brigade averted a major tragedy at the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, today after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder placed near a tubewell around 8 am.

No loss of life was reported but three birds reportedly died due to the leak.

On being informed, fire brigade and police personnel reached the spot and helped tackle the leakage. The cylinder was reportedly put in a water tank, which averted a major tragedy. Some trees around the premises were damaged. The fire brigade sprayed water on the trees. A few people who complained of difficulty after the leak were examined by the hospital staff.
