City judokas win medals in Khelo India Games

Saiyam Choudhary (17), a student of Shishu Niketan Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, won his third national gold medal in the boys’ 50kg category by defeating all his opponents by knockout with Ippon score, on the opening day of the Khelo India Youth Games.

He won his first bout against of Adarsh Kumar of Bihar with Ippon, followed by similar victory over Punjab’s Sahil with Ippon score in arm lock. He won semifinal against Hardik Khodake of Maharashtra and defeated Chintu of Uttar Pradesh in the final. Vivek Kumar of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, won a bronze medal in same weight category.

He started by defeating Satish of Telangana by Ippon score, followed by beating Raghu Mehra of Punjab with three penalties (equalling to Ippon score) and lost the semifinals against Chintu of Uttar Pradesh in golden score.

In the bronze medal bout, he defeated Sahil. Both the Judokas are trained by coach Vivek Thakur at the Sector 34 Sports Complex.
