Skipper Arjun Azad scored a brilliant 178 to help Chandigarh claim a modest 42-run lead over Maharashtra on the Day 2 of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the Sector 16 cricket stadium.
In reply to the visitors’ 280 runs, the hosts posted 330. Though Chandigarh lost the first three wickets — Harnoor Singh (22), Nehal Pajni (13) and Rajangad Bawa (3) — at 77, Azad found a fine helping hand from Prashant Ahlawat to help the side recover well. The duo raised a 51-run stand before Ahlawat (25) departed.
Azad managed to get a good support from Akshit Rana (40) as they raised a 115-run stand for the fifth wicket. The Chandigarh innings then witnessed a quick fall of wickets. Nishunk Birla (1), Chirag Dhindsa (8) and Neel (1) returned as the team’s total read 274. Harshit, thereafter, made 29, as the duo (Azad and Harshit) raised 50 runs for the eighth wicket. Azad’s was the last wicket to fall.
AR Nishad returned with a five-wicket haul for the bowling side, while SA Veer claimed three and Vicky Ostwal accounted one. Maharashtra were at eight for no loss when the stumps were drawn.
