On the opening day of Roots Tennis AITA National Rankings Championship organised by Roots Tennis Academy, Chandigarh’s Ruhaan Hambaria cleared the boys’ U-16 first qualifying round by defeating Assam’s Prayan Sarania in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Haryana’s Jahaan Kakkar faced a tough resistance from Assam’s Snighant Goswami before logging a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win, while Farhan Aziz defeated Arav Garg 6-2, 7-6(1). Kirtarth Kashyap also marched into the next round by defeating Tanish 6-0, 6-3, and Mayank Bishnoi defeated Punjab’s Rivansh Khullar 6-0, 6-2.

Aryan Nehra logged a comeback 4-6 6-2 6-2 win over Aarav Lakhanpal, and sixth seed Punjab’s Adeshbir Singh ousted Samarth Khullar 6-0, 6-1. Dhruv Khanna was playing 1-6, 0-1 against Sohrab Singh, when the latter conceded the match, while Naitik Deval easily blanked Kritya Garg 6-0, 6-1. Dhruv Assel defeated Shabeg Singh 7-6(2), 6-2.

Meanwhile, in the final qualifying round, top seed Punjab’s Japnit Charaya defeated Ruhaan Hambaria 6-5, 6-3 and second seed Ayaan Chandel ousted Jahan Kakkar 6-2, 6-1. Fourth seed Harsh Marwaha defeated Kirtarth Kashyap 6-0, 6-1, while Mayank Bishnoi defeated Aryan Nehra and Adeshbir Singh outplayed Dhruv Khanna by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. Tanishq Makhija fought a hard-earned victory with 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 against Naitik Devan, while Udayjot Singh defeated Dhruv Assel 6-0, 6-1.
