Eager parents of the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) trainees today met the Director Sports, UT Administration, to clear their doubts regarding the future training module meant to train their children, once the department takes over the possession of the Sector 10 sports complex.

CLTA officials have submitted a representation to the UT Administrator for reviewing the recent orders to evict the Sector 10 complex. The officials will be meeting the UT Administrator, and will be taking up the issue, demanding a complete rollback of the decision as it will affect many families, claimed highly placed sources.

As per the order, the CLTA had been asked to hand over the possession in seven days, and the deadline was September 17. The parents interacted with top officials of the department, and they were assured that the training of their wards would not be disrupted. “All doubts of the parents were cleared, and they would be informed that the Administration was just taking over the arena. The department has already prepared the blueprint for running the centre, which will be discussed with the authorities concerned and will be implemented soon after taking possession of the complex,” said an official of the department, seeking anonymity.

“Our wards are getting world-class coaching here, and we are worried about their future. We are not sure if the department would provide the same level of coaching or not. Once the department takes over, the authorities can also raise questions on the availability of hostel facilities, which we were informed was never approved,” said a parent.

Another parent added that, “We have invested a lot in the training of our kid. Though, the department ensures us of undisrupted training…how would we manage coaches. We are waiting for the official release of the department’s training programme before taking any final call.”

“During the meeting, we kept our concerns forward. However, the department officials stood by their decision. We were asked to submit our suggestions and problems. We have shared everything with them, now we have to wait to hear the final call of the authorities,” added another parent.

Highly placed sources claimed that the department had already initiated the plan for a smooth takeover of the arena, and started planning the assessment. As the last date of lease’s condition (meant for eviction) will end on September 17, the department is most likely to take over the arena on September 18.

“We have to put a proper plan for carrying out the process. Till date, we have not received any report regarding any trouble. It will be a smooth process. Parents, coaches, employees and stakeholders are advised not to follow any rumour,” said a senior functionary of the Sports Department. The official further added, “We will surely have to follow government guidelines, even for implementing the fee structure — which cannot go beyond the approved amount. Everything has been put on record, and will be approved in the coming days.”
