The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Rajinder Singh, Senior Assistant in the office of Assistant Registrar, Punjab Cooperatives Department, Kharar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
A VB spokesperson said the suspect, a resident of Garden Colony, Kharar, has been arrested following a complaint by Jaspal Singh, a resident of Bhaghindi village. He added that the complainant had been working as a secretary in the milk collection society in Seonk village. The complainant alleged that Rajinder Singh had been demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 in lieu of clearing a file pertaining to the elections of the milk collection society.
After conducting a preliminary inquiry, the VB flying squad laid a trap.
The suspect was arrested after he was allegedly caught accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him.
