A day before Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad, the price of one-way air ticket from Chandigarh to Ahmedabad soared four times the normal rate on Friday.

A one-way ticket from Chandigarh to Ahmedabad, which is normally available at Rs 5,000-6,000, was priced between Rs 17,000 and 21,000 — almost four times the normal price. The one-way air ticket on Saturday, the concert day, is priced between Rs 18,000 and 20,000 for the two available flights.

Advocate Ajay Jagga, former member of the District Consumer Protection Council, UT, has written to the Central Consumer Protection Authority, Department of Consumer Affairs, New Delhi, and the Union Civil Aviation Minister, seeking a probe into the sudden and arbitrary hike in airfare ahead of the concert.

“In view of the jacking up of the prices of air tickets, it is prayed that the matter may please be examined, regarding abrupt and extraordinary hike in air fare. There are no factors except the rising number of passengers to the Ahmedabad due to the Coldplay event,” the letter read.

The British rock band is on its second tour to India with shows in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Somewhat similar situation was witnessed regarding flights from Chandigarh to Prayagraj and vice-versa when one-way airfare soared to Rs 20,000 against the normal price of Rs 7,000.
