Colours of India on display at Kalagram fair

The sharp nip in the December air on Wednesday failed to play a spoilsport for the upbeat tricity residents, who flocked in their thousands to be a part of the mega event and enjoy the colours of India at the National Crafts Mela in Kalagram.

Avid mela enthusiasts enjoyed the power-packed morning and evening sessions cut out for the regular stage performances, which included Rajasthani folk singing by Murli Rajasthani. Up next were the stellar folk dances of various regions, including Dogri (J&K), Kalbelia and Kachi Ghori (Rajasthan), Mathuri (Telangana) Hozagiri (Tripura), Bihu (Assam), Purulia Chhau (West Bengal), Pung cholam/ Dhol Cholam/ Dhangta (Manipur), Sirmauri Naati (HP), Badhai (Madhya Pradesh) and Balti (Ladakh).

Among a slew of ground performances today were of the Behurupiyas, Nachaars, (Punjab) Nagada and Been Jogis (Haryana), Baajigars and puppeteers. The occasion turned out to be a selfie point for visitors.

The other regular features of the day were the daily quiz contest for children and an on-the-spot photography competition on the theme “Glimpses from Crafts Mela” organised by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi.

Camel ride offered a great deal of fun to the young and the old freaks alike.Foodies tickled their taste buds and choose from an array of cuisines and culinary delights.

The mela will continue till December 8.
