Making a statement, the Fairway Comets registered a 6-1 win over defending champions Partee Panthers during the ongoing Chandigarh Golf League (CGL), at the Chandigarh Golf Club today.

Sultans of Swing also displayed their early season form with a 6-1 thumping victory over the Chandigarh Gladiators, while Hunting Hawks pipped Golf Masters 4-3 and Moksha Royals logged their maiden win with a 4.5-2.5 verdict over the Green Gators.

In the day’s opener, Panthers squared-up against Comets. In fact, the opening singles saw the new Asia Pacific Seniors Champion Sandeep Singh Sandhu (Comets) facing Raghav Bhandari. In a closely marked game, Sandhu started on the front foot and led on the turn with 1-Up. Bhandari turned the game around to lead 2-Up. With three to play, Sandhu won three holes in a row to win 1-Up. In the four balls, Prithvi Singh Sandhu and Jasbir Singh Maggu produced a 4-3 result to seal the points for the Comets. For the Panthers, the two points came from Sahil Sahgal and from the team of Simarinder Singh and Aarman Singh Kler .

Sultans came out all guns blazing as Tarun Lehal and Feroz Singh Garewal brought up comfortable singles wins before the Rabbin Saini and Col PS Mangat logged a 6-4 win. Another big win came from Dilsher Sukhija and Sampat Singh (5-4) and Saurabh Singh Mangat along with Sehajbir Singh Sidhu, who closed out the match 2-1. The consolation win for the Gladiators came with a 7-6 outing by Ashwinder Singh and Col VP Singh.

Meanwhile, table topper Hawks had a tougher outing this time around against Masters, as Navjot Mann (Masters) and Kulwaran Singh (Hawks) won their respective games to split the singles. Col HS Sethi and Harinder Singh Mann won 4-3 for the Masters, while GS Bakshi and Ravibir Singh recorded a 4-2 win in the anchor game. Despite the close scoreline only one game went the distance, which proved decisive as Arun Talwar and Narbir Singh Kahlon brought it home for the Hawks.

In the day’s final match, Moksha Royals put up a spirited performance as they pulled through in the four-ball games after scoring only 0.5 in the singles with the help of Vaneet Mohan. Their pairs scored some early wins with Virain Khosla and Manu Khosla, along with Amit Saini and Vishal Sharma, winning 5-4. Skipper Darvesh Kumar combined with Tejpal Brar to get their team over line with 4&2 result.

Results: Golf Masters 3 - 4 Hunting Hawks; Partee Panthers 2 - 5 Fairway Comets; Chandigarh Gladiators 1 - 6 Sultans of Swing; Moksha Royals 4.5 - 2.5 Green Gators.
