Concerned over the delay in the construction of a workshop of the Haryana Roadways in the Industrial Area, Phase 2, here, Haryana Assembly Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta directed the Public Works Department to complete the project as early as possible.

Gupta stated this after inspecting the under-construction Haryana Roadways workshop here today. He said it was necessary to increase transport facilities for the development of Panchkula. The work started in 2018, but it was going on at a slow pace. He said after the completion of this workshop, maintenance and repair work of 170 buses of the district would be done easily and transport activities would also increase.

Officials said most of the work had been completed and the remaining work of electricity, poles and concrete would be completed by next month and the two-storeyed workshop would be inaugurated on August 15.

Gupta warned the officials that if the work was not completed on time, then strict action would be taken against the contractor. He also sought information from the authorities about the railway overbridge connecting the Industrial Area and Sector 19.

The officials said the Railways was yet to start the work. Gupta instructed the officials to seek complete information from the Railways and get the work started.

He directed the Transport Department to start the bus service from Barwala and Raipur Rani to the PGI, Chandigarh. He also directed the Regional Transport Officer to check illegal plying of bus service in the district, which was causing loss to the state exchequer. — TNS
