Ahead of the mayoral elections in Chandigarh, the Congress party has appointed Kuldeep Singh Rathore, an MLA from Himachal Pradesh, as the observer.

Rathore who represents Theog constituency also serves as a spokesperson for the All India Congress Committee. The elections to the posits of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor are scheduled for January 24, with nominations to be filed on January 20. However, major parties, including the AAP, Congress and BJP, are keeping their strategies under wraps.

According to sources, the decision on filing nominations will depend on the outcome of hearing in a case related to mayoral polls in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 20.
