Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) local unit president, Jitender Pal Malhotra, said the people deserve a clear and honest answer from the Congress party regarding its actual stand on Chandigarh’s future.

“The contradictory statements of two senior Congress leaders — MP Manish Tewari and local unit president Harmohinder Singh Lucky — have created deep confusion among the public and proved that Congress has no unified or consistent policy on Chandigarh,” he said.

The leader added that Tewari repeatedly claims that Chandigarh should be handed over to Punjab, while Lucky has clearly stated that Chandigarh should continue as a UT. These conflicting statements not only contradict each other but also expose Congress’s internal disagreement, lack of leadership and political opportunism.

Malhotra said that for a city as significant and sensitive as Chandigarh, such double-faced politics by Congress is nothing but playing with public sentiment.

He said unlike Congress, the BJP was fully committed to the city’s stability, identity, security and development.
