Sanjeev Chaddha, president of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal and trader of Sector 17, said the broken tiles gave an ugly look of the sector, which was visited by a large number of people every day. The employees of the Electricity Department and Internet service providers also damage tiles while carrying out repairs of the underground cables. They leave the spot unrepaired and visitors face a lot of inconvenience due to these broke tiles, especially during the rainy days. The continuing rain has further damaged the tiles across the market. Constructed at a cost of Rs 48 crore, the multi-level parking is leaking at many places and rainwater enters the basement during downpour.

Sikandar Singh, an employee of the Punjab Government, said the condition of Sector 17 was never so bad. There is a need to ensure proper cleaning of road gullies so that rainwater is drained immediately.

The condition of the roads and roundabouts has deteriorated in many sectors. Stagnant rainwater has led to extensive damage to the roads. Waterlogging was also reported in the markets of Sector 34 and 35.
