Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsLooking to improve cleanliness across the city’s southern sectors, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has proposed strict guidelines, including live streaming of cleaning work and fitting GPS on machines, for awarding sanitation work in the area. A fresh tender will be floated for Sectors 31 to 63 soon.
At present, Lions Services Limited is carrying out sanitation work in the area. The civic body pays the company approximately Rs 50 crore annually. The contract, however, is due to expire in September.
The request for proposal (RFP) for the tender tabled in the last MC General House meeting had drawn objections from several councillors. Among the demands were ensuring better conditions for employee welfare as well as strict compliance guidelines for the company engaged in sanitation work.
A committee of councillors was formed to seek suggestions and make recommendations. Sources said the civic body had prepared an agenda in this regard after consultations. It will be tabled in the next House meeting on August 26.
The committee has recommended that instead of two, four CCTV cameras should be installed on the road sweeping machines — one in the front showing the working of front brush, two for side view and one at rear. The system shall also support live streaming and all recorded data shall be securely backed up and retained for a minimum period of 90 days.
The successful bidder shall also ensure a GPS system in the mechanised sweeping vehicle.
The committee also unanimously recommended that the company shall mark daily bio-metric attendance of employees deputed on respective beats. If required, the firm will also be allowed to conduct health check-ups of workers at the civic body-run dispensaries located in Sector 39, 49, 50 and 52.
Congress councillor Gurpreet Singh, meanwhile, has requested to incorporate clause regarding medical insurance of the employees. All councillors were of the view that number of bush cutters should also be increased from 30 to a minimum of 94.
