The police arrested a couple from Zirakpur and 10 others in an NDPS Act case and allegedly recovered 8 gram narcotics powder, 700 gm of poppy husk and Rs 1.80 lakh from their possession at Shiva Enclave in Zirakpur yesterday. The police claimed they were doing drugs when the cops conducted a surprise check in the area.

The accused have been identified as Zirakpur resident Tarsem Lal, his wife Shimla Devi, Jasbir Singh, Javed, Lakshay, Ravi Kumar, Simon Masih, Lovepreet Singh, Nikhil, Faizaan, Mandeep and Aslam. A case has been registered at the Zirakpur police station.

More than 1,000 drug peddlers have been put behind bars and around 700 cases registered across Punjab as part of the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” drive. The Dhakoli police yesterday arrested a constable in connection with the seizure of 1.7 kg of heroin.
