The CBI court has granted bail to Kamleshwar Nehra, leading fireman of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, who was arrested in an alleged bribery case. The CBI had arrested the accused on November 7, 2024, along with Mani Majra station fire officer Dassehru Singh while allegedly taking bribes from the complainant.

As per the CBI, the investigating agency received a complaint that the accused officers were demanding bribes from the complainant to expedite the issuance of the NOC required under fire safety regulations. The applicant, who was not willing to pay the bribe, contacted the agency and filed the complaint. After preliminary inquiry the CBI laid a trap and arrested both accused for allegedly accepting Rs 80,000 as bribe.

KP Singh, counsel for the accused, argued that the verification report clearly revealed that the applicant did not demand any bribe from the complainant. Consequently, the applicant’s name should not be in the FIR.

The public prosecutor opposed the bail and said that the applicant and his co-accused were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.

After hearing the arguments the court granted bail to the accused. It said that since the investigation was complete and the final report of investigation had already been submitted, the bail application of the accused was allowed.
