Four days after he tested positive, 91-year-old former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali today.
His condition is reported to be stable. His son Jeev Milkha Singh, a four-time European Tour champion, decided to shift him to the hospital, said Milkha’s wife Nirmal Milkha Singh.
“Last night, he faced some problems and later in the morning, we decided to shift him to the hospital. His oxygen saturation level had dropped a little. However, he’s doing fine now,” said Nirmal.
She said their elder daughter Mona Milkha Singh, a doctor at the Metropolitan Hospital Center at New York, who attends to Covid patients in emergency, would also be coming to the city.
“Doctors said he was responding well to the treatment,” said Nirmal.
Meanwhile, talking to The Tribune on Sunday, Milkha had said: “I am recovering well and have been in good spirits. I will definitely overcome this phase.”
“He has been hospitalised. He was weak and not eating since yesterday. Though his vitals seemed alright, we thought it was safer to have him admitted,” said Jeev. “He is under good care of doctors there. He is a strong man, always positive and will recover soon,” added the golfer, who reached here on Saturday from Dubai after his father tested positive.
