Patiala, November 13
Covid warriors at Government Medical College (GMC), who have been working round the clock for eight months, will observe black Diwali as a mark of protest.
The Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA) said they were let down and cheated by the Department of Medical Education and Research because their demands were not met.
The faculty’s demand include time bound re-designation, enhancement of retirement age to 65 years, notification for the compensatory earned leave for this year’s cancelled summer vacation, powers to college principals to sanction ex-India leave and rectification in computed leave for medical and dental teachers.
Dr Diwan Bhullar, president, PSMDTA, said, “The Directorate of Medical Education and Research has been sitting on files and totally ignored demands under the garb of Covid-19 pandemic.”
Meanwhile, Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia, general secretary, PSMDTA city unit, said the department did not issue notification for the compensatory earned leave to medical and dental teachers in lieu of the cancellation of the summer vacation of the faculty due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year.
