Cracks develop in gutted building of Vishal Mega Mart, goods removed

Mohali, March 3

A major fire, which broke out at Vishal Mega Mart store in Phase 5, Mohali, has been fully brought under control after three days today.

The Fire Department was able to douse flames after 18 hours and did not allow anyone to enter the strore. Due to massive fire, major cracks have developed in floors and walls of the building. The burnt goods were removed from the gutted building by the firefighters.

An official said around 12 pm they started moving goods out of the store.

Yesterday, Aashika Jain, Officiating Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, had directed the SDM to conduct a fact-finding inquiry within a week into the fire incident.

Besides Rajesh Dhiman, Additional Chief Administrator, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), was asked to conduct technical examination of the building and submit a report

by Wednesday.

Jain said she cannot confirm if the Additional Chief Administrator has conducted the inspection today. Dhiman could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
