Chandigarh, December 10

A meeting of the faculty and staff of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID) today condoled the demise of Prof Braj Bihari Kumar, Chairman of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

Prof Kumar died on December 8 after prolonged illness in Delhi. Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development is an ICSSR-supported institution.

Prof Kumar was appointed as the Chairman of the ICSSR in May 2017. As an acclaimed anthropologist, scholar, educationist and social activist, he contributed substantially to understanding the Indian society in general and the Northeast in particular. His publications across a range of subjects are widely read and appreciated.

Participating in the meeting, Prof RP Bambah, Chairman, Governing Body of CRRID, described Prof Kumar as an eminent social activist, and highlighted the loss to the social science.

A two-minute silence was observed for the departed soul.
