After over two and a half months, the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) will resume its inter-state bus service from tomorrow.

Confirming this, Uma Shankar Gupta, Director (Transport), said initially, the buses would ply on nine routes in Punjab and seven in Haryana. On starting buses to Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and other neighbouring states, he said they were yet to receive consent from these states. The long-route buses will start only from the ISBT, Sector 43. The buses will be operated from “point to point (origin to destination)” only with 50 per cent passenger occupancy keeping in view the social distancing and other guidelines. No boarding or de-boarding of passengers will be allowed en route.

Passengers can book their tickets only through the online bus reservation management system. No night bus service has been planned for now. As a preventive measure, thermal screening of passengers will be done at the ISBT. The buses will be sanitised twice — at the start of the trip and at the end.

Amit Gupta, GM, CTU, said initially, 40 buses would be pressed into service. They would scale up the operation as per the requirement.

Online booking of tickets

Tickets can be purchased online on the CTU website http://ctuonline.chd.gov.in or through mobile app “CTU Musafir”, available on Google Play Store, or from the counter at the ISBT, Sector 43.
