Chandigarh University (CU), Gharuan, topped the podium in the All India Inter-University (men) Rugby 15’s Championship at Panjab University here today.

In the final, CU men registered a 29-3 win over Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

KIIT, Bhubaneswar, registered a 19-12 win over Punjabi University, Patiala, to bag the third position.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Shivaji University blanked Patiala varsity 19-0, whereas CU thrashed KIIT 17-0.

In the women’s competition, KIIT, Bhubaneswar, won the title after beating Punjabi University 24-6 in the final. Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, drubbed Mewar University 46-0 in the third-place playoff.

In the semifinals, Punjabi University blanked Mewar University 20-0, while KIIT drubbed Rohtak girls 17-0.

PU go down fighting

KIIT, Bhubaneswar, also won both the men’s and women’s titles in the All India Inter-University Rugby 7’s Championship.

In the men’s competition, Panjab University went down fighting to KIIT in the final. The hosts lost 7-10. Shivaji University registered a 21-12 win over CU to claim the third position. Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, finished fifth, while Punjabi University bagged the sixth position.

In the women’s final, KIIT defeated Patliputra University, Patna, 19-5. Maharshi Dayanand University finished third with a 7-5 win over the hosts.
