Zirakpur, November 13

A 65-year-old cyclist was killed after being hit by a truck here today. The police said the victim had been identified as Puran Singh, a resident of Rampur Kalan village, Zirakpur.

Boota Singh, investigating officer, said the incident occurred in the morning when the victim was standing near the median to cross the highway. In the meantime, a truck coming from the Zirakpur side allegedly hit him while taking a U-turn. The victim died on the spot. The police have arrested the driver, Rahul Sharma, a resident of Uttar Pardesh.

The body of the victim was handed over to his family members after an autopsy.
