Police have arrested a daily wager for an extortion bid on a Phase 3B2 jeweller and demanding Rs 2 lakh from him. The suspect, identified as Ajooba, a resident of Chander village in Amritsar Rural, had called the owner of Anmol Jewellers about a week ago and threatened dire consequences.

The owner reported the matter to the police, following which a manhunt was launched.

Mohali SP (City) Dilpreet Singh said, “The suspect has been arrested. No criminal background of the suspect has been found till now. He made a phone call to the jeweller at around 10 pm demanding Rs 2 lakh.”

An extortion case has been registered at Mataur police station.
