Dancers bring alive Meera’s devotion to Lord Krishna

Chandigarh, January 31

The North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, presented a ballet, ‘Meera’, at Tagore Theatre here today.

As many as 21 kathak dancers of the Krishna Kala Kendra and the Education Society Delhi performed under the direction of Vidushi Anu Sinha, kathak exponent of the Jaipur gharana.

Anu Sinha portrayed the legend of saint poet Meera by bringing alive her divine love and devotion for Lord Krishna. Even after her marriage to Kanwer Bhoj Raj, prince of Chittor, princess Meera continues to worship Lord Krishna while extending all care to her husband and royal family. After her husband’s death in a battle, Meera was filled detachment and renunciation.

The music composition by Rajendra Gangani enhanced the performance.

Chief guest Dr Arun Mishra, Dr Saubhagya Vardhan, Director NZCC, Kamal Arora and Atul Sharma of the CSNA honoured the artistes.
