Taking prompt action to resolve the problems faced by commuters using the Baltana bridge, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain today directed the municipal council to immediately repair and redesign the bridge so that the recurrent damage to the bridge over the Sukhna Choe is stopped.
The repair work began this morning.
The DC said the repair work was hampered by heavy downpour over the last few days and it had been noticed that the bridge was virtually submerged. Now, as a temporary measure, after clearing the mud from the bridge, tiling work would be done to make it smooth for commuters, and guardrails would be reinstalled. The ongoing repair work would be completed in the next 10 days, she added.
The DC said that the civic body had also been asked to get the work done as early as possible. To this end, the Drainage Department had been directed to assist in redesigning the bridge to resolve the issues permanently.
