Deadly S-curve claims youth’s life in Mohali

A 25-year-old youth died while two others were seriously injured after their jeep crashed on to the barrier and flipped to other side of the barrier near an accident-prone S-curve in Sector 70 in the wee hours today.

Jagraon native Jasbir Singh died while Jaspooran Singh and Gevan Singh were seriously injured and admitted to a private hospital. Family members said the trio were brothers in close relations and going to Sector 22, Chandigarh where the family owns a mobile phone shop.

Jasbir had gone to Malaysia for studies two years ago and had come for a vacations for a few days ago. He was to return in two days time.

The victim’s uncle Jagpal Singh said,”Despite several accidents on this steep curve, the administration was in a deep slumber.”

Scores of vehicle drivers have lost precious lives here as the work to straighten out the killer stretch falling on the road separating Sectors 70 and 77 near the Gurdwara Mata Sunder Kaur has been hanging fire. The gurdwara management and GMADA have failed to resolve an issue.

In April 2022, senior GMADA official said they had received the consent of the gurdwara authority and the shrine would be relocated. A project report would be prepared for straightening the road in the next two weeks, following which an estimate would be prepared and tenders floated. But it all remained on papers.
