Holding placards, they sought an end to the “exploitation” of the MC employees. They alleged that the employees are not getting salary in time and are being removed from jobs.
They also demanded transparency in the Manimajra housing project. Bunty said their stand on the Manimajra housing project was vindicated when an agenda for revising the zoning in respect the housing project in pocket 6 of NAC, Manimajra, was approved in the House meeting on Tuesday.
They added that they will oppose the formation of a committee on the project as announced by the Mayor in the House. Bunty also demanded a special session for a detailed discussion on the auction of the land in Manimajra, as there is a possibility of misuse of public money and assets.
He alleged that the voice of the opposition leaders was suppressed by the ruling party as they were not allowed to raise their demands. They had been removed from the House by marshals during the last two meetings, he said, adding that the attitude of the ruling party was undemocratic.
As the councillors were protesting, Devinder Singh Babla, a former councillor and husband of Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, came out of the office and assured the leaders that the Manimajra project will be implemented in most transparent manner and the money generated from the auction will be utilised in the development of the city.
