The Janetpur railway underpass was covered with rainwater to the brim, leaving hundreds of local residents in a spot for the second day running. Road users had to take a 3-km detour, resulting in nearly 15-minute additional travel time.

The Dera Bassi Municipal Council deployed a fire tender in case of an emergency and personnel at the spot to divert vehicles. MC officials today installed a water pump near the underpass to drain out the accumulated rainwater.

Built in 2016, the railway underpass, providing access to residents to the national highway and other connecting villages, becomes a problematic spot during rainy days as water accumulates here to a ‘dangerous’ level.

Somewhat similar is the condition of the Mubarikpur underpass where vehicle owners struggled in sludge and rainwater while making their way through it.

To make matters worse, the Bhankharpur-Issapur level crossing has been closed for road traffic for a couple of days due to repair work on the railway track.

In Dera Bassi, the Gulabhgarh road and Ram Leela Ground remained waterlogged at several places till afternoon.

The state government has set up control rooms in all 23 districts of the state, including Mohali, to deal with any flood-like situation during monsoon. The district revenue officers have been appointed as the nodal officers of these control rooms. Special attention was being paid to clearing of sewer lines, officials said.
