Dera Bassi, August 3
Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa has sought the upgrade of the Zirakpur Municipal Council to the Municipal Corporation from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during a meeting held with Punjab MLAs today.
Randhawa said he suggested the Municipal Corporation status to the Zirakpur civic body as its population was around 4-5 lakh.
The Dera Bassi MLA has also sought the construction of a hospital in his constituency, the land for which will be provided anywhere free of cost.
During the meeting, Randhawa also put forward the demand for a girls’ college in Zirakpur. He said there was no college in the close vicinity and students had to go to Chandigarh and Panchkula to pursue higher education.
“The Chief Minister has agreed to the suggestions and I hope that work on all three things will begin by the end of this year,” Randhawa said.
On the upgrade of the CHC, Dhakoli, to the sub-divisional hospital, Randhawa said: “Wait for one week and there will be an announcement. It may not be a surprise that the CM may visit the hospital.”
On January 4, 2021, former Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu announced plans to make the community health centre (CHC) of Dhakoli into a 100-bed hospital. A gynaecologist and a surgeon were to be added to the existing staff, besides an upgrade of the laboratory at the CHC before March 2021. However, even after more than a year, nothing had been done. The AAP MLA said talks were also on to get a package to strengthen the sewage system in the area.
