The police today arrested Vijay Kumar, alias Sonu Sethi, owner of Sethi Dhaba, for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a community.

Four women have also been named in the case. The suspect was produced before a local court today which remanded him in two-day custody.

Zirakpur Station House Officer Onkar Singh Brar said a function was organised by Sonu Sethi at Sethi Dhaba on Wednesday in which a large number of people, including women, participated in the event.

Meanwhile, Sethi twisted a religious hymn and recited it. The video went viral on the social media, with women dancing to the beat of drums, distorting the sacred verses of the text. Religious groups strongly objected to this and lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered against Sonu Sethi yesterday evening and he was arrested. Sethi publicly apologised for his mistake.
