Chandigarh: A Dhanas resident was arrested with 12 gram of heroin. The police arrested the 24-year-old suspect, Nirmal, near the BSNL office in Sector 34 here on Friday. A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Sector 34 police station. An investigation into the case has been launched. TNS

Akshay bags gold in 95-kg category

Chandigarh: Akshay Phogat defeated Harnoor to win gold in the 95-kg category on the opening day of the Senior Sate Championship, organised by the Pencak Silat Association of Chandigarh, at the Sector 42 Sports Complex on Saturday. In semi-finals, Akshay ousted Danish and Harnoor defeated Abhay Mittal. In the 80-85kg category, Tomas won the gold medal by defeating Sahil. Sahil Badima and Rahul claimed joint third position. TNS

Aryan, Diva win tennis titles

Chandigarh: Second seed Aryan Thakur and Diva Bhatia won the Roots-AITA Champion Series (7) U-18 National Ranking Championship for boys and girls, respectively, in Zirakpur. In the boys’ U-18 final, Thakur overpowered top seed Sarthak Gandhi 6-2, 7-5, whereas Diva won the girls’ U-18 title by defeating Ruma Gaikaiwari 7-5, 7-6(5). TNS
