Doctors hold gate rally at Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital

Fatehgarh Sahib, July 1

On the eve of Doctor’s Day doctors under the banner of the Joint Government Doctors Coordinating Committee held a gate rally at the Civil Hospital to protest against the Sixth Pay Commission report here today. They also observed silence to pay tributes to doctors, who lost their lives during the pandemic.

Dr Satnam Banga and Dr TS Randhawa said, “Doctors have been performing their duties as frontline workers during the Covid pandemic and lost many colleagues. It is unfortunate that the Sixth Pay Commission has not only reduced their non-practice allowance (NPA) from 25 per cent to 20 per cent, but also de-linked it from the basic pay.”

They demanded that the NPA be increased to 33 per cent and linked with the basic pay and pension should be fixed on these criteria. They also demanded that doctors, who worked as frontline warriors be given special allowance.

Doctors warned that if their demands were not met they would be forced to suspend emergency services at the hospital. Representatives of the Rural Medical Doctors Association, Ayurvedic Doctors Association and other unions also participated in the rally against pay panel report.
