Double delight for Sector 22 school girls

Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 22, logged twin wins on the fourth day of KB Malik Memorial Trophy for Chandigarh Sub-Junior Girls (U-13) and Junior Girls (U-15) State League Championship at the Sector 46 football stadium.

The team posted a stunning 7-1 win over Velocity Football Club. Muskan, Poonam and Nandini scored two goals each, while Divyanshi posted one to help the Sector 22 team bag three points.

In the second match, the team of the GMSSS-21 recorded a 6-0 win over St Stephen’s School, Sector 45. Sabina starred in the team’s win by posting three goals in the second half while Nancy posted two and Damini netted one for the winning side. Bhavan Vidyalaya was awarded a walkover in the third match as the GMSSS, Sector 37, girls failed to turn up at the event.

In the state league, the GMSSS-Dhanas lost to De-Himalayan FC 4-2. In the 16th minute, Jiya of De-Himalayan Club dribbled past one defender and rushed towards the opponent’s goal area before marking powerful shot and record the first goal for the side. The Dhanas girls did not lose heart and continued to try for the equaliser. They succeeded in scoring it in the 20th minute, as Gurman levelled the scores. In the 23rd minute, Jiya struck again for De-Himalayan. After a lemon break, Simran of De-Himalayan FC scored the third goal for her team with a long kick from the centre. Later, she posted another goal for the side. The Dhanas team reduced the margin further through Niharika. At the final whistle, the club team bagged two points.

In other matches, St Stephen’s girls defeated Government Model High School, (RC-1) Dhanas, 3-0, and the GMSSS-22 girls outclassed Spail Villa FC 3-0.
