Chaos erupted on Kaimbwala Road, behind Sukhna Lake, on Wednesday afternoon when a Chandigarh Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), identified as Daljit Singh, allegedly drove his car while severely intoxicated and crashed into a series of vehicles.

Witnesses reported that the ASI appeared so drunk he could barely see the road ahead, plowing into one vehicle after another and creating panic along the stretch.

In total, he is suspected to have hit around a dozen vehicles, including cars and scooters. The rampage ended only when his car collided head-on with an approaching school bus. Fortunately, all children and staff on board escaped unhurt, though the impact caused alarm among bystanders and motorists. Following the crash, locals immediately alerted the Police Control Room.

The PCR team, upon arrival, had difficulty extricating the ASI from the damaged vehicle as he was trapped inside. Officers eventually broke open the car door and pulled him out.

The windscreen had shattered during the collisions, causing a deep injury to his forehead, and blood was visible on his face, coming from his eye.

He was rushed to the hospital for medical care. Police officials confirmed in their preliminary findings that the ASI was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Departmental and legal proceedings have been initiated, and a detailed inquiry into the sequence of events is underway. Authorities said strict action would be taken based on the medical report and investigation outcomes.
