E-challans in Mohali cross 30,000-mark

The police have issued 30,934 traffic slips since the e-challan system became operational on March 6. Of these, only 1,775 traffic slips have been disposed so far, with the police having collected Rs 1.66 lakh.

In total, around Rs 2.97 cr remains pending till now, the official data showed.

Notably, as many as 351 high-resolution CCTV cameras are monitoring 17 junctions across Mohali.

Meanwhile, residents have expressed reservations over the existing system with some of them seeking change in the speed limit on main roads, fresh coat of line markings, stop lines, and zebra crossings.

The administration has given a two-week time to the civic body and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority to fix all persisting issues.

Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, meanwhile, has also written a letter to CM Bhagwant Mann, condemning the issuance of helmet challans to Sikh women in Mohali and demanding their cancellation.
