The Municipal Corporation carried out an anti-encroachment drive near the vegetable market in Sector 26 this morning and evicted nearly 75 illegal vendors.

The operation was executed jointly by the enforcement wing, the MOH, and the horticulture wing following the directions of MC Commissioner Amit Kumar. Watermelon, melon, and other fruit vendors had illegally occupied the green belt adjoining the mandi premises.

It was observed that slips were being issued to these vendors by the Market Committee and commission agents even as the area fell under the MC jurisdiction. The horticulture wing has been instructed to install barricades along the green belt to prevent future encroachments. The committee has been directed not to issue receipts or permits to unauthorised vendors.
