Former councillor and ex-member of the Administrator’s Advisory Committee Chander Mukhi Sharma criticised the move to convene a special Municipal Corporation House meeting to “thank” the Union Home Minister for approving Rs 125 crore for the civic body.

Sharma said receiving Rs 125 crore was not a grant. “These are not new funds or a special relief package. It is simply re-appropriated funds of city residents lying with the Chandigarh Administration. Projecting it as a special achievement is misleading.”

The MC was yet to be brought out of financial crisis. There had been no permanent financial relief or solution. The BJP failed to protect the civic body from sinking deeper into debt, he added.
