Chandigarh, August 2

Sandeep Bhardwaj, a close aide of former president of the Chandigarh unit of the Congress Pardeep Chhabra, today resigned from the primary membership of the party.

In a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi, the former general secretary of the city Congress said: “With a heavy heart, I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National congress.”

Bhardwaj blamed former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal for his resignation and levelled several allegations against him.

Notably, Bhardwaj, who has been vocal against the current leadership of the city Congress, was not retained as the general secretary in the new office-bearers’ list released recently.

Bhardwaj has been openly favouring Chhabra even as the latter was replaced by Subhash Chawla.

Bhardwaj alleged that the old party workers, who had been working to strengthen the party for the past 30-40 years, were being sidelined.

Meanwhile, Chhabra continued to attack Chawla. In a tweet, he said, “The party in Chandigarh thinks all are their servants.”
