Ex-soldier kills 6 of his family in Haryana's Naraingarh over land dispute; tries to cremate them at night

Ambala, July 22

An ex-serviceman allegedly killed six members of his family by slitting their throats with a sharp-edged weapon at Rataur village in Haryana’s Naraingarh, over a land dispute on Sunday night.

He also tried to burn the bodies in his house after committing the crime, police said.

Those killed were his mother, brother, sister-in-law, a nephew and two nieces. The accused, Bhushan, also attacked his father, Om Prakash.

The injured father has been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Naraingarh.

A niece, who was seriously injured in the attack, succumbed to her injuries at PGIMER Chandigarh, police said.

Police reached the spot and recovered the half-burnt bodies. The retired soldier fled the spot but was rounded up by the police later.

On receiving the information, SP Surendra Singh Bhauria reached the spot at 3 am. The bodies have been shifted to the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, for post-mortem.

According to Om Prakash, the crime was over a dispute for over two acres of land.

The deceased have been identified as Kumar’s mother Saroopi Devi (65), brother Harish Kumar (35), sister-in-law Sonia (32), and their three children — Pari (7), Yashika (5) and Mayank (6 months).
